Why does ILOG offer special academic licenses?
ILOG benefits enormously from having its products used in over 1,000 universities throughout the world. ILOG—along with the rest of the OR community—reaps the benefits that come from research and innovation in the use of optimization techniques and models. ILOG recognizes that academic institutions have special needs as well as budget constraints, and we want to do our part to support non-commercial research and development.

Are academic licenses limited in any way?
ILOG academic licenses have no limitations. When you license ILOG CPLEX or any other ILOG product with an Academic license, you are getting the same software with the same power and features that commercial organizations and government agencies get when they pay standard commercial prices.

What about version updates and technical support?
Standard academic licenses do not include the right to future software releases. New versions can be obtained either by pre-paying the right to updates for a period of time at the time of license purchase, or by paying an upgrade fee when a new release becomes available. Academic licensees are offered technical support on an as-available basis, by e-mail.

Who can take advantage of ILOG's academic sales program?
Any person currently affiliated with an accredited academic institutions can take advantage of our academic sales program.

What commitments are required for an academic teaching license?
You must execute an ILOG Academic License Agreement.

What must I know to use an ILOG product with an academic license for a consulting engagement?
Commercial use of ILOG software is not covered by an academic license. If an academic professional performs a consulting engagement for a commercial enterprise, non-profit organization or government agency, he or she can not leave the developed models with the client unless he or she purchases a commercial deployment license from ILOG.

How do I get a license key?
To begin using your ILOG product, you need an access key. Full-version access keys are available from ILOG’s Web Licensor. For more information, visit our license support page. Your ILOG academic license will include an access key request sheet that contains the following important information about your software:

• The reference number needed to access your account
• The license ID needed to transfer licenses

How do I transfer an academic license?
You may transfer a license to a different machine with the same operating system up to three times in one year. The license must be for the current version of the software. If your license is for a non-current version of the software, you must pay the upgrade or transfer fee before you can transfer the license.
